Teeth Cleaning

At Huron Dental Center, our gentle professional cleanings will help preserve your teeth and gums.  Many of our patients visit us one or two times annually.  Routine teeth cleanings help minimize the risk of tooth decay.  Having a cavity filled may seem uncomfortable but relative to root canal therapy or tooth extractions, it is like a day at the beach.  If you have not scheduled your next professional cleaning, contact us today and avoid the cost and discomfort of extensive dental restorations.

Oral Examinations

In order to maintain a healthy smile, it is imperative that our dentists complete comprehensive examinations of your overall oral health.  Routine digital x-rays will help us monitor the condition of your teeth and identify early signs of decay.  Comprehensive examinations gage your gums condition and position along your teeth.  Early detection of periodontal disease can save your smile.  Restorative dentistry can be expensive and extensive.  We will develop an examination schedule that matches your oral health requirements.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal Scaling and Root Planning - If plaque starts to creep below the gum line, gingivitis can deteriorate into a condition known as periodontitis. Periodontitis is an inflammation that can erode the ligament and bone beneath the gums creating deep pockets that foster the growth of destructive bacteria and ultimately cause tooth loss. We can work with you to develop a specialized program in the home so that you can avoid periodontal therapy outside of the home. However, we do offer services, which include the use of antibiotics and root planning (deep scaling of the bacteria-filled pockets).

Sealants

Sealants are used as a preventative measure help to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In many individuals, their tooth structure may have several fine grooves or pits, which can accumulate plaque.

This is usually not caused by brushing improperly or infrequently, but simply because these fine grooves or pits may be too narrow to allow even one bristle inside for cleaning. Unfortunately, if not taken care of properly, these tiny grooves will develop cavities over time. To prevent this, our professional dentists or dental hygienists may brush a coating onto the tooth or teeth that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy and free from decay.
